Cartwheels quilt

Hooray. 1 unfinished project down. 2 more to go.

Using a tutorial found here and some Amy Butler Love strip rolls from A Joyful Soul Fabrics, I whipped the front up pretty quickly. Joy even cut the cream strips for me too - which made it even quicker. I only got around to making the back on the weekend, quilted it on Monday and finally bound it today.

So - did you make anything today?

Productive, or not

So yesterday I had the sudden urge to finish something. So I grabbed my cartwheels quilt top, made a back and started quilting it. I'm only maybe just under half way done. Hopefully I'll get some more done today. Still have to make the binding too.
And if I get it completed - I may even want to finish the others. Now, that would be productive!

And tonight we are having spiced pumpkin & lentil soup for dinner - as it is still rainy.

Or, I might just curl up with a cuppa & a book. Ooh, that sounds like a plan.

A boat would be a good idea

So it all started yesterday. There was a bit of rain. Went to pick up the kids from school and on the way home we found this.

That would be the entrance to our street. So we went to the next street. Same deal. And the next....well, you get the idea.
So we finally got home - the long way round. I went to bed and woke up this morning to all the roads leading out of here were cut off due to flooding.
Schools were getting cancelled. And the creek way down the back of our property was suddenly in the backyard.

When the water receeded we went down to have a look. This was all underwater a few hours earlier.

The creek is still full and moving swiftly

We quickly went down to the shops while the roads were open to grab some bread and there is still a ton of water across the roads. And we are supposed to be getting more rain across the next couple of days.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see

Pocket pillows

I finally made it. And of course I had to do 2 at the same time. One for my beautiful boy and one for my gorgeous girl.
I loved this pattern by Nova from "a cuppa and a catch up"
I really enjoyed making them.

I used all my Tula Pink Price Charming leftovers for this one. To match my daughters quilt.

And this one was all the leftovers from my son's quilt - some Michael Miller, Daisie Janie, Basic Grey and some Amy Butler.
The only thing I bought for these were the cushion inserts and the lining fabrics. About $22. Not bad I say!
Hmmm? What to make next?? :o)

The end of pouch week

Feels like all I've been sewing lately. Well, I guess that's because it is. This is the last one. Totally last minute - my girl informs me that the case needs to be big enough to fit her ruler. Ok. So a few adjustments to the pattern and this is what I got. Also added some heavy interfacing to the outer panels to provide a bit of stability. Seemed to work well.

My sweetheart wanted my Joel Dewberry fabrics that I was saving for a bag. What kind of mum would I be to say no to my sweet girl?

Especially when she is such a good helper. She reorganised my scraproom yesterday. And I am loving it. And she's always rescuing this chook (Gabbana) as it likes to escape the chicken pen everyday. It's become her favourite chicken and she's always carefully putting her back in the pen with the others.
Back to school for the kids next week - I don't know what I'll do without them. I love having them around all the time.
Looks like I'm going to have to brush up on my chicken catching skills ;o)

This week:

Made a couple more zippered pouches with some leftover fabrics. My daughters bf requested a new pencil case for school next week, and I happily obliged.
Have to wait for the cushion inserts to arrive at Spotlight (they were out of only that specific size)
Am no further in finishing the cushion covers, but I did go and get the rest of the fabric I needed.
Did all the school shopping, but have just realised I forgot about getting school shoes!

Mums phone died so we organised an iphone4s for her, which she gave to me and I gave her my iphone4. I picked up a new cute case - which I love! Thanks Mum!!

This week, I need to get my office cleaned and organised. Hate it being so messy and not being able to find anything. Wish me luck!

I was cutting out pieces of fabric like a mad woman last night. I piled it all up ready to sew today. Now this little mister has claimed it for his bed.
He's too cute to disturb.

Dipping my toes in the water

I was going to tackle the pillow today but just felt too intimidated. So I thought I'd just whip up something small to get my feet wet.
Using Toni's tutorial and some scraps from my daughters quilt. I made a little pouch. The exterior is Tula Pink's Frog prince in coral for the front and Tula Pink's Hex Box in Coral for the interior

Going to cut out some more pattern pieces and get the pillow started tomorrow.

Happy Mail

For my birthday, my mum gave me money to buy some fabric. It finally arrived today. Mmmmm.
These are the six I chose to make the honey bun pouf. Hopefully there will be a little bit leftover for me to do something else with.
And I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. I baked 2 loaves of banana bread yesterday and I've made some dough for pizza tonight. Soon I'll feel good enough to sew. Hope it's soon. I have alot of unfinished projects laying about and it's starting to irritate me.

Crazy

It's been a crazy 2 weeks. I have been sick since boxing day. Ended up at the after hours medical centre last night and finally starting to feel a bit better this morning thanks to some antibiotics.
So things going on around here:
I pre ordered this book

My mum bought me material for my birthday, I chose Lark - no surprises there, and I'm going to make this Amy Butler Honey Bun Pouf with it. Can't wait for it to arrive.

And I also bought Camille's Swoon pattern I definitely want to make it this year. So lovely!

And yesterday, before getting really sick - I started to cut up my leftover fabric from my sons quilt and I'm throwing in the Amy Butler dots as I don't quite have enough scraps. I'm really trying to use up what I have and not buy anything additional

for Nova's gorgeous Pillow Pocket pillow. Hoping that by tomorrow I feel like sewing again.

Thirty Three

My top 10 of 2011

Since I didn't do alot of scrapping this year, my top ten aren't pages, more like things and moments.
So here we go:
First is the cake that has been most requested from me. And my go to cake for special occasions - the chocolate mousse cake. Found in Bill Grangers Bill's Food cookbook. Oh so yum. If you love chocolate - you need to try it!

Number Two -
I went to a sewing class. Which excited me so much I bought a machine.

So I could make my first quilt.

Or was this my first one? I made them at the same time.

Which leads to number 3. My Queen quilt.

Still not completed. But definitely on my to do list for 2012. I want it done and on my bed.

Four: My coffee machine. Hands down my favourite appliance this year. I love coffee. LOVE it. And it's oh so much better being able to roll out of bed, hit a button and make a perfect cappucino every single time. Mmm.

Coming in at number Five (but number 2 on the appliance list, a new addition to my kitchen). My Kitchenaid mixer. Ahh, so pretty.

Number Six: My beautiful boy turned 15 and we spent the day tearing up the go kart track. Even though he was crook for most of the day, he thoroughly enjoyed himself - which made my heart sing.

Number Seven: The funniest moment. We heard on the net that 7-11 were having a BYO cup day. So my daughter took down my vase as a cup, resulting in the worlds biggest slurpee. Well, the biggest I've ever seen.

Number Eight: Moving. Moving this year was huge. Huge physically and huge emotionally. We'll be moving again this year, and at this stage I really don't even want to think about it.

Number nine: Getting chickens. I never knew I wanted them until I got them. The ladies are so beautiful and I love getting fresh eggs daily.

And finally ten. Celebrating 11 years of marriage to the bestest man I know.

What an adventure 2011 has been for us. It hasn't been perfect but we are together and stronger than ever. My kids are amazing and I cherish every second that I have with them.
Here's hoping that 2012 is bigger, better, brighter and far beyond anything in your wildest dreams.

I'm down and out with a cold this week. Finding it hard to get on top of it. Anyone got any sure fire remedies?
I bought a pattern today - I bought Nova's Petal Pocket & Pillow Pocket pattern. It's so gorgeous. I think it would make a great present. Once I feel better I really want to have a crack at it.

No sewing or scrapping this week - but I have been keeping up with my December Daily. One more day to go!

Back tomorrow with my top ten. (If I don't spend the day curled up in bed)

Merry Christmas

Just wanted to stop in and wish each and every visitor to my little blog - a very Merry Christmas and a super fabulous New Year - filled with lots of crafting and sewing.

Almost forgot to take a pic of my placemats. I now see that a red or green or gold border would have been nicer (but there wasn't that much variety at the shop)

And this is the reverse.

And I thought I'd leave you with my favourite present I got today. Hubby upgraded my chair. I was so happy to chuck that old one out! Look how small it was.

My new one is seriously fabulous. So big and soft and it even reclines. It is so comfortable. I love it.

Last minute

I decided yesterday that I wanted to make placemats for Christmas night. So while we were picking up the car from the mechanics - I ducked into Spotlight to see what I could find. I picked these 3. Not the prettiest fabrics - but they were half price. Gotta love that!
So after running a few errands today, and doing the christmas shopping and some christmas baking, I'm going to try making them.

This morning I was reading blogs and landed on Ambers blog, which led me to her post here
and I fell in love, so I decided to make my own ipad cover using her awesome tutorial. Thanks Amber!!

I love how it turned out and used leftovers from my Amy Butler weekender bag.

I finally had my oven fixed today - so I made some cinnamon buns this afternoon. Let the chrissy baking begin!!

Do you have a favourite chrissy recipe that you always make every year?

Amy Butler Birdie Sling Bag

A while ago I purchased this kit from Joy. But with making my weekender and all the quilts I need to finish - I hadn't got around to it yet.

Last week, I cut out all the pieces out. Then on Thursday I attached all the interfacing. What I loved about this kit was that all I needed was a pair of scissors and some thread. I loved not having to run to the shops and get bits that I had forgotten. It was a very new experience - and one that I very much liked!

It really annoyed my that I hadn't got it done yet, and with Christmas creeping closer, it was putting the pressure on me! So yesterday I had to sew hubbys pants anyway - so I just did it.

Amy's pattern was pretty easy to understand. Although when attaching the bands, I was left with a chunk on either side that I ended up cutting off. But as I was putting the whole bag together - I'm thinking that the extra piece would have make it fit better.

All in all it's a cute bag - and definitely one I'll do again. It has 2 pockets inside - very handy. And it's really comfy on my shoulder. Just gotta hope that Mum likes it. If not - I am definitely taking it back ;o)

So that's one present off my list.

December Daily

December Daily is in full effect here. The Christmas spirit - not so much.
But here's what I've been doing

The cover - I sprayed with White Mister Huey & Chalk Glimmer Mist. Then a layer of Chandelier Glimmer Glam over top to seal it. I love sparkles.

Using Ali's DD overlays

And backing each page with different pp's from the kit - plus a couple extras out of my stash.
It's very simple. Just how I like it.
It's so quick to print out a pic from the day - and scribble some notes - and call it done.

Worked on my bag for mum today. Didn't get very far. Aiming for a little bit more tomorrow.

Amy Butler Weekender Bag

It's finally finished. I can't believe I did it. I absolutely love how it's turned out.

Keeping in mind that I am a beginner sewer, these are my thoughts on the bag:

I think it was really worth paying attention to lining up the pocket panel and the main panel so that the design on the fabric lined up. (Too bad I forgot about the sides) But that doesn't bother me TOO much.
There is a lot of cutting.(Naive me thought that was the worst part)
I thought the way the zipper was installed was genius.
I don't think the straps are wide enough to be comfortable. Especially if you had a heavy load.
I used heavy Duty interfacing instead of the peltex. It still sits quite nicely. And it was cheaper.
If you make this bag - it's probably worth adding a new pack of pins to the notions list. (Mine are totally destroyed)
Keep a pack of bandaids beside you when you are sewing the bag together. I had a couple of injuries with all those pins!
It got really frustrating sewing the bag together, I thought it was never going to end. And I was muttering swear words in my head the whole time.
Hand sewing sucks. Alot. I would pay to have somebody do all the handsewing.

But now that I sit back and look at my completed bag - I think I could possibly entertain the thought, that I might, one day.....make another. Eeek - did I just say that? Just not anytime soon!

What's in the box?

So yesterday afternoon some green boxes got delivered. Hmmm. What could they be?

My new KitchenAid mixer & Ice cream making attachment.

But what colour did I get?

Why, only my favourite colour in the whole world....Aqua!

Oh, she is so pretty. And so shiny. And will be happily replacing my little hand mixer that I've had for 11 and a half years that is on it's last legs. Hooray!

Today - I'm off to sewing class to work on my weekender bag. Hopefully I'll get it finished today.
Wish me luck. I think there's a fair bit of hand sewing and I'm not so good at hand sewing.

Busy hands

Last night I went to my sewing class and made the sides for my Weekender bag.

And put in the zipper at the top.
Going back tomorrow so I'm going to be a bit more closer to being done. Woohoo!!

And yesterday I completed a quilt top, using this tutorial. I'm scared about quilting this one. Might start with the other 2 first. And save this one for last.
Slowly working my way through my to do list.
Now- some Weekender bag homework.

Amy Butler spice tote

Yesterday I worked on my Amy Butler spice tote. Only to discover that I had sewn one lot of my handles on sideways. I decided to call it quits right then and there.
Fast forward to this morning - I got home, made a coffee, grabbed my scissors & upicker and headed out into the sun to get started.
It took so long. But I was determined to finish this project.
So I kept going at it till it was done.
It's not very neat but for my very first bag - I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm thinking I could probably get a small one out of the leftover fabric I have from it. Just not sure if I'm ready to tackle another one so soon. And my sewing to-do list is already long enough. I might try and get one of those quilts completed this week. Wish me luck!

This morning I am enjoying my second favourite breakfast - tahini & tomato on sourdough toast with a coffee. Mmm.
My favourite being ham & avocado on sourdough toast - but I didn't have either in the fridge this morning.
Last night I headed off to my sewing class with all my bits packed in a crop bag

And in class I made the piping and the two pocket panels. It's going to be one big beautiful bag.

I am so excited to finish it. And I certainly can't wait to use it. I have a bit of homework to do today. Gotta make the handles ready for next week.
And I'm hoping my December Daily kit arrives today. I haven't played with paper in so long. I am really looking forward to it.

Well - I better go and plug my sewing machine back in and get started.

A great time

I had a great time away. There's nothing like recharging yourself with a fill of your bestest friend. I love her dearly. Missed my family though and am pretty glad to be home.
While I was away, my jelly roll and bag stuff arrived-

I am making that bag for my mum for Christmas.
And I used the jelly roll to finish my quilt tops. Except I miscalculated a little and I'm going to have 3.

I'm a little short on one of them so I'm going to have to come up with something to add to it.

Last night as I was getting cranky in the heat, my hubby pulled a table out of the garage and set me up a sewing area in the air conditioned lounge room. It was the best gift ever! Now I can sew in the cool and be where everyone else usually is. Love it!
But I am under strict instructions that I cannot bring all my material in there. And with the way it's piling up - I think that's a pretty fair deal ;o)

A little Lark

Last night I went to my sewing class to start on the Amy Butler Weekender Bag. These are the fabrics I've chosen to make mine.
I've read so many horror stories - so it's kind of intimidating. But broken down into smaller chunks should make it less stressful. And today I am still cutting pieces out.
Hoping my other fabric arrives so I can finish off either of the quilts I've started.
Will be spending my weekend packing my bags and getting everything organised. I'm getting away for a couple of days to visit my best friend that I haven't seen since 1999. So long ago!
So if I don't pop in before - have a fabulous week.
I get back next Thursday and it's straight off the plane and back to class again. See you then with some more progress,

Woohoo - Happy Mail

Today my package arrived -

And I was so excited to find a mouse mat in the top. So now I can finally upgrade from the magazine I've been using! Awesome

And I can't wait to play with these goodies. It's going to be so much fun.

And in other news, I've started another quilt. I did have a plan but now I've changed my mind. So I'm not really sure where this one is heading. I'm still waiting on some more fabric to arrive for it. Hope it gets here this week so I can finish this by the weekend.

Really incredible

I got the movies back yesterday afternoon before I picked the kids up from school. I couldn't wait to get home and stick them in the dvd player.
They were fantastic. And look how little my baby girl was. I totally burst into tears. I miss those little people.
I pulled out my scrapbooks and there is absolutely no pages for the whole of 2000. I think that was when I didn't own a camera. Shocking!!
So I'm going to see if we can pull some pics off of the footage. I don't think they'll be very good quality.
But some is much better than none!
These movies are absolutely priceless. I only wish I'd been smart enough to tape more.
Feeling so very grateful that I have a little slice of our history. And it makes me more determined to start scrapping again.

I can barely contain myself!

As I was looking in a bag the other day for something, I found a little pouch. Inside was 3 video tapes that I've been carting around from house to house for the past 11 years.
I went searching and found a guy to convert them - so now I'm waiting.
Waiting and hoping that they weren't damaged.
Because this will be from when my kids were 2 and 4. I can barely remember back that far.
I am so so excited to see what's on there!

In the past couple of weeks - I received some Fabric. Backing & binding for an upcoming quilt.

The chickies got some visitors in the shape of cockatoos.

And the ladies are still giving us an egg each a day - and the eggs are now getting bigger.

This is a before pic of my shelves. Before meaning before my daughter decided to rearrange them.

And the finished shelves. Nice job sweetpea.

I received some more fabric. Amy Butlers Lark. OMG. So totally divine. Love the colour palette. Still waiting on the other piece I ordered.

And I started on a new quilt yesterday. It has given me so many problems. And if you follow my twitter feed, you'd already know that I walked away from my desk, halfway through cutting, to get a cup of tea. And when I got back I picked up the quilting ruler the wrong way and cut all my fabric the wrong length. So now I am short on completing the quilt. I am an idiot!
So not wanting to be beaten, I worked my little tail off and now have a pile of blocks ready to go once I get some more fabric.

It was a very silly mistake that I hope to never repeat!

Soul Blossoms - disappearing nine patch

I planned a date with my sewing machine today. Dropped the kids off at school, made a cuppa and went to it.

I ended up binding it with Amy Butler Laurel Dots in Periwinkle.

I like how it turned out - I hope my Mum does too!

I've nearly had my fill of Soul Blossoms. Next to come - Lark It looks beautiful.

I received one of my fabric orders today from Hawthorne Threads. So yummy.

I got these fabrics for the backing of my own quilt.

And I got these for the backing and binding of my Soul Blossoms quilt that I am making for my mum.

And I got these for another quilt that I am planning using the Amy Butler Love Collection.
I really need to finish one thing before I start another. So I think I'll possibly finish off mums before I attempt my own.
In other news - Mouse, Paper, Scissors is back with a new class MPS GIVE. I can't wait. I have loved all the previous MPS classes. And just in time for Christmas. Really really can't wait.

I spent this afternoon sewing the blocks together. Now I just have to wait for my fabric to arrive for the back. Hopefully it won't take too long. I've already got plans swirling in my head for the next 2 quilts - can't wait to get my hands on some more fabric ;o)

Smashing & Sewing

Today I got in a bit of sewing time and finished putting together the Amy Butler squares. I'll save tomorrow for the ironing and cutting and resewing ;o)

I also sorted the few fabrics that I have - which has prompted me to thinking, what to do with all the little leftovers. Hmmm?

I also have decided to make my black Smash into a sewing project book. So I can keep track of what I make, how much things cost and where I got bits from.

And I have to keep kicking this little dude off my chair - apparently he thinks my cushion is pretty comfy too!

Finally Friday

This week we have been bumming around at home. No sewing to speak of - which is probably why I'm going nuts.

These lovely ladies have been giving us 2 to 3 eggs a day. Such good girls. Which means I've been making lots of things like this

With passionfruit from the vine. Mmmm....
Next week I am hoping some fabric will arrive so I can get a move on with one project. And get some fabric ordered for the back of my big quilt. Got lots to do.
Still haven't sorted out my craft area. I'm thinking I need to get rid of a few things. I don't have as much storage as before - so it's just gotta go.
Hubby will be pleased with that!

Sewing Saturday & this week

Today I sewed up all the Amy Butler Soul blossom squares that I had. I need many many more for what I have in mind.
And the reason I sewed all of these this morning - my sweet darling kitty woke me at 5:00am. Thank you very much! It was so early, not even the chickens were up and about. They are becoming good at laying - we've had 2 eggs a day for the past 2 days.

Some of which I put to good use last night. I made a berry crumble cake. And when I went to serve it, I realised I had no ready made custard in the fridge. So I pulled out the eggs and milk and made my own in the thermomix. 7 minutes, no stirring, and deliciously perfect custard. Mmmm.

This week we planted the veges. We've got spinach, beans, peas, beetroot, chilli, capsicum, shallots, tomato, pumpkin and rhubarb. I hope they all survive.

And last but not least - look what my sweet girl made for me in Manual Arts. It's so cute and I love it

It's the first day of school holidays and I'm still on mummy taxi duty. Can't wait to get to bed tonight and get into relax mode.

A little one

This week I got a couple of goodies from ebay. A couple of strip rolls and squares. So since it is my great nephews first birthday on Sunday - I thought I'd whip up a little quilt for him. I finished it up today.

I used Baby Safari by Carina Gardner for the front and I ended up getting a grey dot for the back.

I hope he likes it.

When we moved I damaged my thermomix by leaving it on the stove - which set it on fire. So last week I sent it away to be repaired. I finally got it back today and put it straight to work by making dough for our pizzas for dinner tonight. They were really yummy!

And my books finally arrived. Would you believe I haven't even opened one page of them yet. I think I better make a cup of tea and fix that straight away ;o)

My Queen

Well, I did manage to sew her up yesterday. And I think she turned out so pretty. And so huge. About 90" X 90" I think. There's even another row above the top one that you can see. My washing line wouldn't go up any higher!

Now I need to start thinking about the back. Not really sure what I'm going to do there. And then there's the issue of quilting it. Eek!! Can't wait till it's all done though - and looking pretty across my bed. Seems pretty far away right now.

And in other news - we got our first egg! It was so exciting to peek inside the nesting box and see that egg there!

And my dear sweet hubby spent the day preparing the vege patch. So hopefully I'll get to planting it soon. I can't wait to grow our own veges. Although I don't have much of a green thumb - so we'll have to see how it goes ;o)

It's another Sewing Saturday

We have had a busy few days. One of the most exciting things was that our chickens arrived. I love them already. They are so cute. No eggs as yet, but I'm confident we'll get one soon. We got 3, and I really can't tell them apart - so they are all just "Chookie" for now.
Yesterday I thought one had escaped. Nope. It must of come from down the road. It had some food and foraged around in the garden and had a good couple of hours here and then left.

Yesterday, some more fabric arrived. I purchased some Soul Blossom Charm packs. I really don't like the cutting part of quilting, so I thought I'd buy precut pieces and try doing it that way. They are really small and I'm not sure how it will turn out. Even if it becomes my scrap room lap quilt - that's good enough for me.

But before I go anywhere near it - today, I intend on finishing this quilt top. The squares are all now triangles, which are all now rows. Now I need to sew it together. Hopefully I can get it done today.

I'm back!

Well, we survived the move. Just!

We packed up the house and stacked it all in the loungeroom. And even slept in the lounge on our matresses on the final night.

Moving day was so long. We didn't stop until about 11pm that night. The next day we spent unpacking everything. We had to go without television & internet for 4 days. They were the longest days of my life I reckon ;o)

I absolutely love this house. We've got fruit trees and vines. And I even found a couple of pineapples growing here too. They are adorable!
On the weekend, we spent time putting together the bbq I bought for my wonderful hubby for Fathers Day.

And he also put together the chicken coop. The chickens will be arriving on Thursday.

I've also started to cut the fabric for my own quilt. I'm using this tutorial but making my squares 9.5 inches for a queen size quilt.

And today I have been baking muffins. They are so delish. Apple & raspberry. Mmmm.

That's it for me today. Glad to be back online and getting back to normal.

Sewing Saturday

Today I toddled off for another sewing class with Amy. We made a cushion. And I used the beautiful Amy Butler corduroy I got last week. It is so soft and yummy. I could just imagine a lovely soft quilt made with it.
Anyway - I just walked through the door and my sweet girl claimed it for herself. Just lucky I have enough material to make another one.
Now I've got itchy fingers to make something else - but I really should get packing. There is so much to do. And really I'd rather be scrapping or sewing.
Oh well - I can do that next week.

Smitten

The mailman pulled into my driveway this morning to bring me a box. Which was not easy to get into as I've packed away all my scissors - Duh!

So with my trusty old pen I prized open the lid to see a beautifullly wrapped package. What's in there?

A new bag pattern. Eek! So cute. Cannot wait to make it. Although I might have to wait until we move and I'm all set up again.

And I also bought a yard of each of Joels Heirloom fabrics in Citrine. And they are just as pretty as I thought they'd be.

Plus I got a yard of Amy Butler Lotus dots. Love them. (I totally loved the paper version too!)

And some Amy Butler Soul Blossoms Corduroy, which is destined for a cushion. Yum Yum!

And I just wanted to say that the service from Quilt Home has been fabulous. The speed, the price, the packaging. All stellar. Thanks ladies.

Boxed up

So we've finally found a new place to live. Hip hip hooray! And this is a pic of my soon to be dining room - or scrap room. Not sure yet. Have to see how we can get our furniture to fit in. I'm so excited to move, but we are still 2 and a half weeks away. I hope it flies.
We've got alot of stuff packed - but there's still a ton to go.
Can't wait to get the keys in my hands and get settled again.

Over the last week - in between quilting and bedrest, and getting lost for hours looking at sewing blogs - I received my pre order of Smash goodies. And I haven't even opened them yet. Which is probably due to the state of my room. I'm in the half packed, sorting, purging state. And it's all mess.

Some of which you can see around my computer in the next pic.

I also updated to Lion. It took ages.

And made my computer do this. But after a restart - it all appears normal again. Thankfully

And I managed a little baking - crunchy topped muffins. I made the base mix, split it in half and did half raspberry and the other half apple & cinnamon. They were both yum.

I also took a trip to spotlight and got the other things that I needed for my pincushion. I may try and get it done today. I don't imagine that it would take too long.
Off to my mums tomorrow for a roast lunch. Can't wait.

Yesterday I went to the second part of my class and put my quilt together. It took all day and part of the night - but I finally got it done.

I think I was a bit too ambitious to think I could make 2 single bed quilts so easily. So now it will be interesting to see if I actually get the second one finished at home.
I think I'll try and start on the second one tomorrow. Maybe.

So I was up bright and early on Saturday. I couldn't wait to get to class. I was so excited I even got there before the teacher. The cutting was not my favourite thing. But it was so worth it.
It was a long day - and I came home with homework. Which I finished like a good little student.

It was so cold that night that I couldn't really sleep, so I got up and cut up my other materials.

I ended up making another one. Finishing late last night.

So now I have to wait until Saturday to go and quilt them. I can't wait. I think it's a new obsession

My hubby didn't want his ipad anymore and thought I'd use it more often in the kitchen - um, yes please. Thanks sweetheart! I have been putting recipes and recipe apps on it for the past couple of days. Awesome!

My SC box finally arrived today and in it - my very first Smash book. I love it. I think it's the perfect size and so fun. Can't wait to start playing with it.

I'm in the middle of packing up my scrap room. I can clearly remember the last time we moved and the boys were complaining that the most boxes they carried in were from my scrap room. It's so very true. So I've started the packing process as it's going to take quite a while.

And in 2 days time I am off to a class to make my very first quilt. I am so excited I can't wait.

A very long week

Ok. In the past week we have celebrated my baby girls 13th birthday. We had a roller skating party. The girls all had a ball. And it was a really great idea getting glow necklaces as it made it a heap easier to keep track of the kids in the dark!

Then we celebrated my beautiful boys 15th birthday. He was so sick. But he was determined to have a good time. So we got up at 5:30am and headed up the coast to a massive Kart track. We had a fantastic time. The little Miss didn't want a turn so she was the official photographer for the day.

I won my choice of a pattern - so I picked this one by Amy Butler. Can't wait to try it out.

So I ordered some fabric for it (the bottom 2 in the stack). The rest of the fabric is for the quilt that I'm going to make for Caitlin. If all goes to plan - my first class should be next weekend.

And this week I also chopped all my hair off. It feels much better.

And finally - we have to start looking for a new place to live. I've found one that I like. Might go check it out this weekend. It's a bit over the budget but I think it's going to be the only place where we'll be able to fit everything in.
I'll probably get more serious about looking once the kids go back to school. Right now I just want to enjoy the holidays. So far I've got 2 people down with the flu, and I'm crossing my fingers that it goes no further.

Party plans

Whipped up a card for my sweet girl today. It's her birthday tomorrow. It feels like it's come up so fast and I'm sort of in a mad scramble to get everything done. I've got a to do list a mile long....and it's only getting longer.

I ordered some ring shells to make the girls personalised rings to put in their loot bags. It's turning into a bit of a disaster.

They started off ok but by the time the glaze dried on top you could barely make out the letter. So I'm redoing them in black. It's a last ditch effort. I might have to bin them if the don't turn out. I'm getting over them quickly.

Well - I better get back to it. Got a house to clean and cakes to bake.

So disappointed

I was so disappointed that I couldn't attend my quilting class yesterday. My fabric still hasn't arrived yet. The next one is in July so I'll have to wait until then.
In the meantime it's nearly time for my babies birthdays. My little sweetness is having a party so I whipped these up using a House of 3 kit. They were so easy and the girls loved them.

Now I want to make rings for the loot bags - I just have to hope they arrive in time.

We've got a holiday tomorrow so I'm cooking up a spiced pumpkin & lentil soup for dinner. It's certainly cold enough for it. It's from one of my new Bill Granger cookbooks. Love him. Love his recipes.

And this little man has been my lap buddy most days. I don't know how he manages to fit on there as he is quite a bit bigger than my lap. But he does. And I don't mind - it keeps me warm too.

Well that's it from me. Need to have a hot shower and get into some warm jammies. It's super chilly,

As of about 4 minutes ago, my fabric order came.All from here. Well part of it. I hope the rest doesn't take too long. Or get lost in the post. Argggh - go away bad thoughts!!

The plain charcoal is what I'm using for the backing. And River Rock is one of the designs for the front. I decided on 5 patterns for the front. Not sure what the proper amount is to use.
Anyway - I am so excited to get playing. Only ten days to go - not that I'm counting or anything. lol!
Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with the rest of it.

It's so so cold at the moment.
But I'm happy to sit in my scraproom as I've got a heater under my desk. Very nice.
Went and saw The Hangover part 2 last night. Bradley Cooper is so delish! I thought the first one was funnier but I still loved it.
And this is the layout that I finished off over the weekend.
Not much planned for this week. Got my mothers birthday on Sunday. Really need to plan the menu. Think I'm going to make the mousse cake for dessert though. Just not sure.

It seems like the only time that I get to scrap (or have the inclination to) is on Saturday nights. So here's my effort for tonight. I'm in the middle of another double - but it will have to wait until tomorrow until I can get my silhouette out. I put it out of reach - silly I know - but it was the only way I could fit in my sewing machine. I really need to reorganise again. And I seriously need to purge before we move. Hopefully in the next house I'll have a bigger scrap space.

This morning I went to purchase my very first sewing machine. Isn't she pretty. I've only had her an hour and already I'm in love.

I've been sick for the past couple of weeks, so there has been no scrapping to mention. But I did go to a sewing class on the weekend. I loved it. I made this bag. Then next month I'm making a quilt. I am so excited. The hard part is picking the fabrics.

Today I received my Studio Calico box. Awesome!

I'm so glad I got the extra pp. They are all so pretty.

I also grabbed Rope Swing. I really wanted that stamp.

And I got Lawn Party. Love the stamp. Love the BG alpha. Love it all.

And I also needed to stock up on adhesive. That should last me a month or two. That is of course if I start scrapping again.

Sidetracked

So much for catching up on things. I kind of got sidetracked by the birth of a friends first baby. So I found the perfect use of the pack of Basic Grey Olivia that I'd been hoarding. I made a mini book based on the MPS Mom mini book that Heidi designed. I used a shape from the silhouette store as a template. And here are the rest of the pages.

Now I really do need to catch up on MPS Mom and I am way way behind in KP's Sketchbook 3, so I need to catch up on that too!
Lucky I stocked up on ink yesterday! I am going to need it.

It's so cool & rainy here today. The girls are off at the movies seeing Diary of a wimpy kid 2 and doing a little shopping.
I'm just trying to keep warm. Thinking that soup might be a good option for dinner tonight. Brrr.

Rearrangement

So I had a bit of a reshuffle. I put my Mister Hueys up on the shelf in front of me so I can see the pretty rainbow everyday.

I moved my Zing out of the rack and put them in a basket

And in the rack, I now have my chalkboard & glimmer mists, maya mists, glazes & glams, distress paint and dimensional pearls. It's easier to see what colours I have now.

I can't find any American Crafts this to that dot refills in Oz - so I ended up going with Kokuyo. This used to be my go to adhesive before they quit making it.It was very expensive and a last resort until I do an overseas order.

I also got some Studio Calico Countryside and some Bluegrass mist.

And finally some Daily Junque - I've been pining for this since CHA. I love that navy paper.

And Soiree - been pining for this too! It's so pretty.

I love scrappy mail days.

Bunny lovin'

How cute is this little guy? I'm going to use him on a card or as a tag. I used Tattered rose and pumice stone distress ink.

And I cut this guy out again using Doodlebug glitter cardstock. I double cut it and still had to use scissors to go over the lines. So I really think there is no chance that the American Crafts glitter cardstock would got through the silhouette as it is much thicker than the Doodlebug.

Need to hide these before the kids get home.

First up - here's my layout for Kelly's Sketchbook 3 - Day 2. I love that navy SC paper. I have got a real thing for navy at the moment. I used Back 40.

Next - I signed up for this class. I completely loved Mouse, Paper, Scissors - so I know this will be fabulous too. Can't wait for it to start.

Loving my new table set up. It's really working for me. I just have to sort out the rest of the room. Eeek!!
Anyone want to help - I'll pay with choc chip cookies and coffee?

Outta glue

I am completely out of adhesive. And I really need some for today. So I stopped in at spotlight to see if they had any this to that refills. Nope.
But they did have punches on special - so I grabbed the fiskars 2 inch circle punch. And some tape. (It was the best adhesive that they had) and I also spied American Crafts Glitter cardstock - AWESOME!!
So here's the question - can you run that kind of cardstock through the silhouette? I don't want to just try it as I don't have a back up blade.

ETA: Here's what I made today.

Some notebook wrappers using "yearbook"

I slipped a little envelope inside the cover for notes or receipts or whatever.

Then I made another one for my mum.

And I also tried out the bunny treat bag. It's too cute. I think I missed something when cutting so I'm going to have another go at it tomorrow.

KP Sketchbook 3 & a catch up

Happy Monday. So thankful that KP's Sketchbook class started today. I've done mine already. Might do another tomorrow. I'm feeling inspired.

And finally, my first assignment for mouse, paper, scissors - was the last one I did. I believe it was because I was waiting on my scoring board to arrive so I moved onto the next thing. It's a wrapped notebook. It's so cute that I don't want to use it.

I'm thinking that my desk organisation is actually working for me this time. A layout in 10 minutes and packing up in 2 minutes. Can't complain about that!

Hoarder no more!

So I have managed to sort some stuff over the weekend. Maybe a better description would be "shuffling".
I've moved my paper shelves right in front of me. (I have tried this before but I think I felt cramped)

And have filled one side with old Studio Calico kits in the hopes of actually using them - instead of hoarding them. In there right now, I've got Candy Shoppe, Back 40, Documentary, Continental, Who's who and Yearbook. A nice variety there. (I wish I could say that they are my only kits to be used - but sadly they're not)

I took away my silhouette and replaced it with my trimmer. (Not sure how this will go)

Shifted my silhouette over here with my thickers and my cardstock. (Look - clean desk)

Drawers under desk - adhesives, buttons & bling & brads, and alphas at the bottom.

Drawer- Ink pads and bits

Oh how I love that it's almost the weekend.
It was a rainy day today so I spent some time finishing off my mirror for Mouse, Paper, Scissors. I made so many mistakes but I love it nonetheless.
I think I'm going to spend some time going through all my stuff and organising & purging. Time to downsize a little I think.

Pile of work/note/passport/craft papers. Old Mod Podge that has gone all gluggy. Hubby's wallet out as he paid for a class I wanted to do.

Glittered letters that are drying.

Tangled cables. Empty cup of coffee. Bag of glitter.

Tester page of glimmer mist. Charging my iphone. Minding hubby's iphone - he's asleep. The 3 GM colours I was trying out - granite, strawberry shortcake and tutti fruiti.

The mirror I'm working on for Mouse,Paper Scissors. It's on top of my trimmer as I'm running out of desk space.

I always make a mess when I'm crafty. But I always clean it up before I start something else.

I played Mouse, Paper, Scissors catch up over the weekend....AGAIN!!
I'm slowly getting there. I've kinda decided that I really don't like my new printer as much as I liked my old one. I've got a really big issue with the colours that it prints. I can't figure out how to fix it. Grrr. It's driving me crazy.
In other news - I signed up to Kelly's Sketchbook 3 class. Can't wait!
And I also bought some of Kerri's storyboard templates. As soon as I get my printer issues sorted - I can't wait to give them a go.

Playing catch up with Mouse, Paper, Scissors. After 2 mistakes, I think I've finally figured out my printer.
Trying to drink much more water.
Weighing in day today - down another 800grams. Total loss so far - 6.3kgs. Happy with that but I know I could do better.
Waiting on a Martha Stewart scoring board. Hopefully it will get here tomorrow.
Feeling grateful for leftovers - had thai pumpkin soup for lunch. And have got lasagna for dinner.

I am still eating healthy - almost 100% perfect, but I slipped up last night and had a piece and a half of pizza, half a cup of soft drink and a piece of chocolate. Major OOPS!!
Will absolutely not happen again.
Started today with a yummy brekky. Off to train soon.

Dreaming of holidays. Planning an adventure in July. Keeping it secret from the kids. Hoping that we make it happen this time.

Feeling the urge to create something today. Training first, playing later.

We suprised the kids last night. We bought them Macbooks each. It was so hard not to tell them on the way home from school. I set them up in their rooms, ready to go. And when we got home I told them to put their bags in their rooms. DD noticed first. She almost squealed the house down. DS didn't notice until the second time he went into his room. They were a hit. The kids are absolutely stoked!!
Now we need to find some nice covers for them. Can anyone link me up?

Can't believe it's Sunday already

It feels like the weekend has only just started. Need to get my bum into gear and organise my shopping list for the week. Still suffering from an ear infection and I didn't exercise yesterday so I really need to try and do something today. It's hard when you feel sick.
My only scrappy effort this week was using Candy Shoppe. I also put together 40 Christmas Cards. Yay me. Although we'll be moving between now and Christmas so I hope they survive! I wasn't really thinking there.
And a big Happy Birthday to the lovely and talented and super inspiring Steph Devlin. Hope you have a magical day xxx

This week

I am enjoying the first week of the 12wbt. Eating better and actually exercising. This salad was requested by my hubs again as he thoroughly enjoyed it. So did I.
I had a weight loss of 2kgs this week- which brings the total so far to 5.1kgs. Got many many more to go. But feeling pretty good so far.

First off - today is Day 1 of the 12wbt. Had a delish brekky of cereal & a banana. Then spent the morning running around shops to find parsley so I could make my lunch. I had a carrot tabbouli & hummus wrap. With home made hummus. Quite yummy.

Then for afternoon tea I had some toasted banana bread and a delicious coffee (I was a busy baker on the weekend and made 2 loaves. Sooo goood!!
Now I'm counting done the hours to Zumba. Can't wait for it.
And today was also a fabulous mail day. 2 parcels. Lucky me.
First was my Studio Calico kit. I just got Candy Shoppe this month with a few little extras

And I also got my kit for Jessica & Heidi's class. Total awesomeness. I spy some Daily Junque yummness

Hopefully I'll get a bit of playtime this week.

I have already scrapped a page. Yay me.

And another one.

I'm thankful for my daughter who takes pics when I'm not around. Love my sweet kids.

I lived through my very first class of Zumba - and liked it! And appreciate that my sweet sweet girl came with me when my friend ditched me.
Have had a good week. The only thing that would have made it better would be if my SC goodies had arrived!!
Maybe next week.

Tomorrow I'm doing my fitness test and shopping for the 12wbt. I picked up a heart rate monitor yesterday and some dvds. So I'm nearly all set to go. Eeek.

Using an old kit

So I've had this frame sitting here since before Christmas. Not really sure what I was going to do with it. Back 40 was sitting untouched in my stash - so I pulled it out and put it to use.

I cut up a sheet of Cosmo Pinwheels and traced the inside of the mat.

Then I grabbed the Basic Grey doillies

And roughly layed out where I wanted to put them

Pulled off the backing and stuck it down

And grabbed my JB butterflies - they are so sweet.

Layed them out and stuck them down

And grabbed some MM metal flowers

And stuck them between the butterflies

Carefully applied the mat.

And put it all together in the frame.

It turned out pretty cute. Now I just need to find room to put it!

I'm heading into birthday season again, which lasts until November. So I thought I'd make some cards today. Just some quickie ones from scraps.

I also did a double page using SC's Who's who kit.
So that's my scrappy effort for the week.

Today I signed up to go to Zumba on Monday. I am kinda freaking out. I am really not an exercise person. NOT. AT. ALL.
But since I have signed up for Michelle's 12WBT - I think I should start getting used to it, since I need to be doing it 6 times a week. Oh, my body isn't going to know what hit it.
I need to lose about 25-30 kgs. Will I be able to do it in 12 weeks? - I don't know. But I'm going to give it my best shot.
Anyway -
Have a fabulous weekend. I am hoping to catch up on some sleep that I have severely missed out on this week. And maybe get in a bit of scrapping time. Wish me luck

This week, in no particular order -

In my quest to lose weight and eat better, I made a quinoa pilaf. It was definitely different and something I probably wouldn't make again. The veges and chicken were good though.

I left the ironing board out one night - and in the morning walked out to feed the cats and found my handsome Dash asleep on it. He wasn't really bothered that I busted him. I had to kick him off. Must be comfy.

And speaking of Dash - he is pretty much my daughters cat. He loves her - but today, he is asleep right next to me. It must have been the chicken bribe I gave him last night.

I ended up moving my hueys to put with all my other spray inks. I think that little gap is going to fill quickly.

And last but not least, I signed up for this class. Cannot wait! I am completely clueless with digital stuff - so I'm hoping that this is just what I need.

I was starting to think that they'd never get here. But suprise!!!
I was so so happy to see this box - because inside it was my January order!

I bought some more JB inks - and my first ever Mister Hueys. They are so cute!!

And they look even cuter in my organiser. Way too cute! They make me smile. Lucky I've ordered some more with my Feb Kit - which hopefully doesn't take as long to get here as this one did.

And I got Who's Who - Book stamp - LOVE!! And that woodgrain paper - DOUBLE LOVE!

I also got Buster Brown - for the delicious Sassafras flowers.

And Dear Abby - for the MM alpha stickers and the love stamp.

I can definitely see some scrapping happening this week for sure!

I changed it

So when I was looking for some ribbon, I found this Prima flower in my ribbon box. My mum loves flowers so I peeled off the butterflies and glued this baby down instead with a velvet leaf.
I also used the list paper from Kinseys nerd alert class as the pages for her to write her lists on or whatever.
I hope she likes it. I need to get rid of it before I start playing around with it more.
This is counting as my scrappy effort this week. I'm pining for my SC january kits - so no actual layout this week :o(

This week

My kids went back to school. It's weird that they are both at the same school again. My traveling time has been cut in half every day. Awesome.

The other day I went to walk outside and saw the cats at the door - then I noticed what they were watching. The big water dragon. He gives me the creeps. We have a ton of them here. Usually they sun themselves on the bench or cool down in the pool, but this guy decided he wanted to get real close. Yuck! I'd prefer that he kept to himself.

I am still loving my coffee machine. Makes me happy. Every. Single. Day.

Have baked quite a few banana cakes. They are so quick and easy in my thermomix.

We've spent pretty much every afternoon in the pool or at the beach. It's starting to finally feel like summer here. Hooray!!

And I got my craft on tonight. Finishing a gift for my mum that was meant to be for christmas but I got sidetracked. I just need some suitable ribbon.

And I'm so bummed that my January SC kits haven't arrived yet. February's go on sale in a few hours. I already did my shopping tonight. I got a couple of mister hueys, some adhesive and another JBS ink.
I hope it comes tomorrow.

Chicken Satay

Specifically for Miss Judi - who politely requested I post some recipes.
This recipe is from Bill Grangers Bill's Basics book

Chicken Satay

The marinade:
I lemongrass stalk, crushed with the back of a knife & roughly chopped
3 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
3cm piece of fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
1 Tblsp sugar (I used palm sugar)
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp turmeric
50g peanuts
4 skinless chicken thighs (I used diced breasts)

The sauce:
250mls of coconut cream
1 tblsp red curry paste
100g coarsely ground dry roasted peanuts
1 tblsp soft brown sugar
2 tblsp soy sauce
1 tblsp lime juice

Whiz the lemongrass, garlic, ginger, sugar, salt, turmeric, peanuts and 125mls of water in a blender or food processor until smooth. Transfer to a large bowl, add the chicken and toss well to coat. Cover and leave to marinate for at least an hour in the fridge.
If you are using skewers - thread the chicken onto the skewers and grill for 5-8 minutes on each side.
If you aren't using skewers - barbecue or pan fry the chicken in a non stick pan over medium high heat for 5-8 minutes each side or until cooked. Serve with sauce.

To make the sauce:
Heat half the cocnut cream in a saucepan over medium heat until just simmering. Stir in the curry paste until smooth and fragrant,
Add the peanuts, sugar, soy sauce, lime juice and the rest of the coconut cream and stir for 5 minutes until thickened.

This was absolutely delicious. So far everything I have made from this book has been absolutely amazing. I am definitely going to get the rest of his books. Yummo!!!

A bit of baking

Today is my better halves birthday. Last night I baked his birthday cake so that I had ample time to let it set.

He absolutely loves chocolate mousse. So it was only fitting that I make him a chocolate mousse cake. I got the recipe from Bill Grangers Bill's Basics book. (I also made the cheesecake out of it for my birthday)
Anyway - look at this yummy bowl of melted dark chocolate. It went into the cake.

When it came out of the oven it looked like this-

Then as it cooled - it sunk and collapsed (as it was supposed to) and looked like this

To which I added a huge batch of chocolate mousse. It smells absolutely divine.

Now I'm patiently waiting for the shops to open so I can grab a few more things for my marinade. For dinner I'm doing chicken satay skewers with satay dipping sauce, pineapple salad and special fried rice. (Satay chicken is his favourite meal)
He had to work last night so he's still asleep. But when he wakes I'm going to be making his favourite brekky - eggs benedict.
I just hope I have enough time to get to the shops before he wakes up!!
I think I'll be right.

Another day - outta ink

Another 2 layouts. I think it's a record for me.

I printed out a couple more pics - and now I've run out of printer ink.
And I'm just about out of glue.
Awesome!!
I might just have enough to scrap a few more pages over the weekend.
Got a few last minute things to do tomorrow so that we're ready for school on Monday. Then the hubs birthday on Sunday.
It's going to be a busy weekend.

Back again

Scrapped a little more this week. I'm trying to use up Metropolitan before Who's who arrives. Which hopefully will be tomorrow. I can't even remember what shop items I ordered.
I know I should have got more dot roller refills. I've just about used up my drawer full. That'll teach me for scrapping so much!

In other news - had to go and get school uniforms for the kids today. I did it without them. I was so lucky that they all fit.
My littlest is off to high school. That's going to be a bit weird having both in high school. Crazy!!
It's going to be great only having to travel to one school. It'll save me so much time.

Ok - back to scrapping!

I love love love the Dear Lizzy Christmas line. Absolutely lovely.

And a layout from the SC "Metropolitan" kit.

And today - this beauty arrived. Hubby decided to surprise me early with it. Oh my deliciousness. I've already made 4 cappuccinos in the past hour. You know - so I can adjust the settings to how I like it. Not because I'm completely addicted and this gorgeous machine is my new BFF.
Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect blend of beans. And maybe some caramel syrup. Oh yummmmm.................

I think that desktop organiser worked. I couldn't stand looking at the kit in it - as it just seemed so much. So I pulled it out. Printed some pics. And started scrapping. 9 layouts. Can you believe it. I don't think I even did 9 in the whole of 2010. I used "On the easel". And I still have a ton left. But I did put a major dent in it.
Next up I'm going to try and finish "Metropolitan" before "Who's Who" arrives, which I'm guessing could be this week.

Shocking

What a crazy time. Have been glued to the tv watching the events happen. We have family & friends in the areas that were worst affected. But thankfully everyone is safe. So much destruction. So horrible.
I was emailed these pics of Toowoomba - so I thought I'd share. The cleanup is going to be massive!
