Working on

Today I made a batch of muesli bars for the kids lunchboxes.
And yesterday was a loaf of walnut, apricot & almond bread. I forgot to put the sultanas in - but it was still so nice. Just had a toasted slice with some strawberry jam. Mmm..
And on Sunday I managed to get a shorter pair of pants out of the material I had left.

Feels pretty good to get a few little things done.

What are you working on this week?

Two

I was finally starting to feel better yesterday, so along with a little housework I decided it was time to make the kids pants.
They were such a quick and enjoyable sew. I'm thinking that I just might be able to crank out some short ones from the fabric I have left from both of them. I hope so.
They wore them to bed last night. So cute.

Off to make some more hot tea. It is super chilly!!
Have a Happy Sunday xxx

Scientific Seamstress Easy Fit Pants

I've been sick for the past week but needed a little sewing pick me up. Something that I could complete in a couple of hours with not alot of fuss. Scientific Seamstress Easy Fit Pants was it!
I pick up the flannelette last week from Spotlight. I whipped it up in a couple of hours. Doing a little bit here & there. Finished them at 5:05pm and realised my elastic was too wide. Did a quick dash to Spotlight and made it with 5 minutes to find what I needed.
Luckily I found some and got them finished.
I have never made clothes before - except for in high school I made a t-shirt, overalls and a lingerie set.
Now I really want to to make a dress.
That is of course after I finish everyone elses jammie pants - which I know I won't be up to today.
I bought the pattern here. Instant download - now that is my kind of shopping!

This week

I made the back for my Queen quilt. Finally. Edging closer to being done. So close yet so so far!

I bought some "S" hooks from the junk shop and finally hung up a few home made bags on the edges of my shelving unit. It's making me happy everytime I walk into the room and see them.
I found a cushion insert under my batting so I stuffed it in my cushion cover. It's about 2 or 3 inches too small. And of course I didn't think to pick up another one when I went to Spotlight yesterday.
But what I did get was some flannelette to make some long wintery pyjama pants. We definitely need them.
I haven't made clothes before - but I'm going to give it a go. I also had to get more material for my darling daughter as she stuffed up the shorts she was making in Home Ec. so she needs to start again. She picked a similar pink dot that was larger.

And last week my sweet little boy went to see Romeo & Juliet at the theatre. He had a really good time. Here's a pic that my daughter took of me & him before he left. It was crazy trying to find dress shoes for him. He is a size 14 shoe. Especially when you only find out the day before. But luckily we did and he looked so handsome.

Anyway - I hope you have a fabulous weekend. I'm hoping to get some sewing time - but the  housework isn't going to do itself. Oh Joy!

Chevron Cushion Cover

I really wanted to dig into my new fabrics today - but I decided that I better finish what I've already started instead. So cushion cover it was.
Luckily I had enough scraps to finish it.
And this is the back.
The only thing I didn't have is a cushion insert. I'll have to remember to grab one next time I hit Spotllight.
Tomorrow I just may attempt my queen quilt backing. Maybe...

And so it begins..

A stack of yummies arrived on my doorstep this morning. These are all destined to play the starring role in my Patchwork Prism Quilt. Hopefully I'll get to start playing with it this week. Delish!!

What's on your crafty list this week?

Happy Mothers Day

I had a great day today. Hubby cooked breakfast, did dishes and did a load of washing. Totally surprising because I didn't even know he knew where the washing machine was!!
Joking. Kind of ;o)
My sweet sweet girl also baked me a cake. She is such a treasure. And my little handsome man was just his normal wonderful self. I am so lucky to call myself their mum.
I was gifted some quilting dies, but only 1 arrived in time.
So last night I cranked out some triangles.
And today I put together a cushion top.
I wasn't paying attention to the order I put them together. Bummer.
I've got a fair bit to go before it becomes a cushion. But hopefully I'll finish it off this week.

And tonight I got to have an early shower, snuggle up in my slippers & dressing gown and watch The Block & Masterchef.
It truly doesn't take alot to make me happy.
Hope you all had a fabulous day too xxx

Third time's a charm

The other day I picked up some fabrics when I went to Spotlight. And today I turned them into a sweet drawstring bag (the laundry bag size) for my Mum to house her Mothers Day presents for tomorrow. I got her a dressing gown and it fits in there with plenty of room to spare.
This is my third drawstring bag and I loved making it just as much as the first.
Hope you have a lovely Mothers Day tomorrow!

Thermomix dinner

Yesterday afternoon I was rushing around after school. Had a million things to do. Finally got home as it was getting dark.
I threw my groceries on the bench and ripped the lid of my thermomix.
Into the bowl I threw 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, chives, capsicum and a packet of bacon. Chopped it all up and cooked for 3 minutes.
Then I added in 300gms of rice, 675gms of chicken stock, tin of tomatoes and a squirt of tomato paste. Then cooked it for 10 minutes.
Then I added in the diced up chicken and cooked for another 13 minutes
Then when it was done I tipped it in my thermoserver with some parmesan cheese and ground black pepper.
It was fast, hot, and filling and got a thumbs up from everyone. Total lifesaver yesterday. And we even had leftovers for lunch today.
You can find the original recipe here. I only changed it slightly by adding in a capsicum & leaving out the wine. And if I make it again I'd probably add in some spinach. Yum.

Now, what to have for dinner tonight?
What are you having at your place?

All wrapped up in my quilt

Usually I can find her wherever my quilt is, and today is no exception. It's so cold here and she's been snuggled up in it for hours. Sometimes it would be really nice to be a cat. Especially one of my cats.

Another little one

And another one. Much smaller than the last one and a little bit odd - only because I used some fabric that I had precut for another project and didn't trim it down to the correct size. Super great way to use up my fabric scraps. Now I want to make the really small ones. Maybe even some Christmas ones - hang on, is it too early to think about Christmas sewing yet? Not for me. It seems to be that I am either really really organised OR totally last minute.

Off to peruse my fabric stash -

Have a happy day

Lined drawstring bag

I decided I wanted to sew today. After digging through my larger bits of fabric, I decided to make the laundry bag from the Lined Drawstring Bag Pattern by Jeni Baker from In Color Order.

I got the bag part done before school. Then had the last part done within 30 minutes of being home.
I'm going to use it for our laundry when we go camping.
It was a fantastic pattern. Easy to follow. Easy to make. I really like to make things that I can complete in just a few hours from start to finish.

I definitely see a couple more of them being made. And the smaller ones too. So cute.

Anyway - have a happy weekend,
