Noodlehead Divided Basket Pattern

Yesterday I cut out my pattern pieces and got to work on making this basket.
Except I didn't have any fusible fleece, So I thought I had a bright idea - and I'd use some foam I had instead.
You should have seen me try to wrangle the pieces in. It was such a terrible idea. I should have stuck to the instructions. By that time I was trying to cook dinner and I was stressing out.

So I ended up hand sewing them together into the basket shape and trimming them down to slip inside. Which would have worked great had I not cut them down too much. Oops.

But I'm pretty happy with it. It's not perfect. And I'm kicking myself for not testing my idea first before I deviated from the pattern and used my good fabric.

It's pretty cute though.
The pattern was fabulous. And totally genius!

I think I'll be making a few for myself. They are the perfect size.
Now to make some things to fill it ;o)

This week

Yesterday I finally received my parcels I ordered with my birthday money.
I got these two prints -

To make this dress

And this one

And in my other parcel were these fabrics

The bottom fabric is for a dress for my girl. The top seven are for some things I am making for my soon-to-be second great niece/nephew. He/She is due in June. And the mama isn't finding out the sex - so she has decided on yellow, orange & green for the nursery. I can't wait to start working on those things.

But this week I'm busy on something else. So the bubby stuff will have to wait.

Retail therapy

So a few months backs I sold a bit of my scrapbooking stuff in the hope to get enough to buy a sewing table.
I recently picked one up and had change - so I got to splurge on some fabric and things. Here we go.
I bought the plastic insert for my sewing table. Although not sure that it fits correctly as I thought it would sit flush.

 Then a yummy pile of fabrics from here. In it were....

 Tula Pink Salt water - fat quarters

 Arrows from Deerfield by Adrienne Looman. (I think I still have some scrapbooking paper designed by her from years ago)

 Some more Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt. It's going to be the backing and binding for the paper pieced star quilt that I'll make this year. (Better get cracking on it)

 And some Free Spirit designer solid in Eggshell to be the background of the stars.

 Lizzy House. Mmmm. Addicted to her fabric right now. Got some Hello Pilgrim Jewels and the top two fabrics are from her Constellations collection.

 Some Tula Pink Saltwater yardage.

 And last but not least Sarah Watsons Luxe in Bloom.

Got a couple more things to arrive. But this was what I was waiting on the most.
Can't wait to start playing with fabric again.

But it'll have to wait another day coz today is my sweet hubby's birthday

 I made his cake yesterday all ready to go - it's his favourite chocolate orange flourless cake. I just have to make the chocolate ganache today.

Art Student tote..again

Also known as - Christmas present 1 struck off the list. Going well so far!

I had it all cut during the week - but only got to sewing it up yesterday.

 I used Amy Butlers Cameo. I made version A this time.

 Which meant no zip and extender - and a magnetic closure.

And being that it's for my mums laptop - I made big pockets so she can fit her cables in.
I also used Pellon Decor Bond and batting to help provide more protection for laptop. Hopefully it's enough.

Now I just have to hide it until Christmas!

Christmas plans

 Christmas is coming around again so soon. Last year I was madly sewing on Christmas Eve while trying to cook things for the next day. Not happening this year!
I put in a little order at Hawthorne Threads to get me started.

I bought some Cameo to make a laptop bag for my Mum. I'm thinking of making Anna Maria Horners Art Student tote with thicker interfacing to give it a bit more protection. Or perhaps Amy Butlers Spice Tote.

And the feathers from Field Study are possibly going to be used in the makings of this dress. Maybe my Christmas dress this year? What do you think?

I'm also planning a table runner & new placemats for Christmas. Along with some drawstring bags, some art journal covers, a pocket pillow, new jammies & stockings for everyone and a duffle bag for the hubby.
Just saying that out loud makes me think I should have started in January. If I aim for 1 or 2 things a week - I should be fine. I hope!

It went like this...

Yesterday I woke up with the urge to sew. So I grabbed this bundle of fabrics off the shelf (where they have been sitting waiting since January). And decided on making Amy Butlers Honey Bun Pouf.

I cut & cut and cut some more.

 My little apprentice helped keep count of where I was up to.

 And then I sewed & sewed and sewed some more.

 And by then she was over it - and passed out at my feet.

  I totally underestimated how much time it would take. I was thinking I'd have it done yesterday. Nope. But I did get one side done.
 Off to a party today. And tomorrow is groceries & cooking. So if I can get a couple hours here and there I may just be able to get it finished by Tuesday.

On hold and a delivery

This week was meant to be skirt making - but I'm temporarily on hold as I forgot to get a few notions. So while I wait for it to arrive - and perfect timing that my parcel arrived today - I have an order for a baby quilt. So I'm going to try and get the cutting done tomorrow, the quilting on Thursday and post it off on Friday. I could be wishful thinking there.
Anyway onto my package. I bought these 3 patterns.

Some Amy Butler Cameo for the baby quilt. With some extra 'Hopscotch in Lake' destined to be a dress.

And some more Birds and the bees. Bought because I love it. Not for anything I have planned yet. But I really love the whole collection. I want to stash it all!!!

Anyway - better go and get started on dinner, have to head back to school with my girl and her BF tonight for subject selection. So no playing with fabric for me just yet :o(

Anna Maria Horner Art Student Tote

I finally finished. I had to stop and take a trip to Spotlight to grab a magnetic snap. Once I was home it only took another hour and ta da!!

I used Tula Pink's The Birds and the Bees Collection. I chose to do the full size tote with the extension panel.

I struggled a bit to decipher the instructions. I would have liked more diagrams. But it turned out ok. If I could do it again I'd use heavier interfacing as I don't really like floppy bags and I'd also like to topstitch the top of the bag.
But other than that, I love it.

And I can happily strike another project off the list ;o)
If I keep going like this - I may just finish it all before Christmas!!

With the arrival of my postman this morning - I now have in my hands the last of the items I needed for class. Plus the bag pattern.
The Amy Butler Cameo voile is so deliciously soft and yummy. It's going to be for my tank top.

And thankfully the jacket pattern arrived too. Talk about great timing. Class starts today.

I caught hubby's cold and have been sick all last week. Went to bed at 6:30pm last night and slept for 12 hours. Only woke up because my alarm went off. So hoping to get better and back into sewing. It's putting me behind on everything.

My to do list is getting longer all the time. I think part of the reason is I don't have everything I need to complete things. Like the duffel bag - I need 8oz batting and 3.5 inch jute webbing, and I haven't found any of it yet.
I think I need to start knocking the small things off the list first. Going to try and at least finish 1 pair of pants today. Wish me luck!!

Delivery

I got a delivery today. Another order from Fabric.com.

I bought some gorgeous Birds & bees for my bag.

And  I picked up some more for my skirt.

I got some Amy Butler Soul Blossoms to make my jacket.

And this will be my dress

And I picked up a bolt of Decor Bond and a bolt of lightweight interfacing too.

Now just waiting on my order from Hawthorne Threads, which should be here any day now. And I'm all set - ready for class. And some weekend fun sewing for me too.
