Calling: All sewers

Ok - I need a little help here.
I started working on a quilt today. I was going along all fine, when I flipped over the quilt to cut some threads and noticed this:
Aaaargh!! Every single row looks like this.
I don't know what to do (besides alot of unpicking!!)
Can someone tell me why this happened? Did I do something wrong??

Please help!

  1. Kelly I am the world crappiest sewer and that is why I know what caused your problem.

Bad bobbin winding is most likely the cause especially if the top side looks good and you didn't notice anything while you were sewing. If it makes you feel any better I do this kind of thing all the time!

    1. Thanks so much Amanda. Bummer - I just put a new bobbin in too. What a waste of thread!

  2. yep, this is a bobbin problem and as unhappy as it may sound, you'll want to 'unsew' it with your stitch ripper as this type of seam won't hold. Set yourself up with a good show like Downton Abbey and enjoy the show while you pick. Sooo sorry. If you're new to sewing, you might not notice this, but typically, something will feel 'off' even on the top so look out for such things and if something isn't as smooth as it ought to be take a look-see. It's also just a good habit to get into to check the other side every so often just to be certain. Bobbin's are notorious for causing this type of havoc. Sorry girl!

    1. Thanks Ursula. It did feel a little off - I just thought it was because I was using different batting. I was up til midnight unpicking it all. Not sure I even want to attack it again today. Thanks everyone for the help xxx

  4. Okay I might be too late in telling you this but you can use a men's neck trimmer to zip all the way down unpicking all of your stitches. It's the best! I always keep one in my sewing bag because I HATE unpicking anything. That really sucks. I'm sorry :-)
